The blackout of 28 April tested the resilience of our critical infrastructures. Regardless of its causes, this incident has brought back to the centre of the debate the need to reinforce the systems that support essential services for the functioning of society.
In this context, Enrique Requena, head of Lener's Information Security and Data Protection area, and Sofía García, lawyer in this area, have signed an article in Diario La Ley in which they address this issue from a legal and strategic perspective.
Under the title ‘The great blackout puts the security of critical infrastructures in Spain in check’, the article analyses how hyperconnectivity and growing digital dependence increase the exposure of key sectors such as healthcare, transport, telecommunications and water supply.
In addition to reviewing the legal framework that protects these infrastructures, the authors and lawyers of Lener propose a series of recommendations to improve resilience, boost public-private cooperation and rigorously apply regulatory frameworks such as the NIS-2 Directive.
