Oviedo hosted yesterday the seventh edition of the Econometro, the report prepared by the Association of Economists of Asturias together with the University of Oviedo, with the sponsorship of Caja Rural de Asturias and Lener. Our managing partner of Lener Administraciones Concursales, Amalio Miralles, spoke at the event, which took place at the headquarters of the Association, together with the dean president, Abel Fernández, and the technical coordinator of the report, Santiago Álvarez.
The Económetro, compiled with the opinion of 300 professionals, has established itself as a reliable thermometer of the perception that the group of economists has of the economy of Asturias. In this edition, the confidence index reached its best figure ever, with an evolution very close to optimism, improving both their expectations about their personal economic situation and about the evolution of the region.
During his speech, Amalio Miralles highlighted the work of Económetro, which addresses such crucial issues as the impact of Trump's tariffs, and recalled the importance of the culture of effort and ethics in the business world: "We are in a global village, everyone is looking for excellence, added value. Asturias has its differential values. Once they have been identified, the focus should be on exploiting them, with private enterprise and public authorities working together. There are no shortcuts. I believe that today, more than ever, we should remember the importance of the culture of effort, values and ethics".
The report also includes analyses on other key issues such as employment in the face of shorter working hours, the evolution of interest rates, access to affordable rental housing and priorities in financial education for citizens.
